Red Rocks and Canyons

I spent twenty years of my life in and around the red rock country of Northern Arizona and Southern Utah. This area is strikingly beautiful and the images have been permanently etched into my memory. My first job as a band director was on the Navajo Reservation at Tuba City High School in Northern Arizona. Next door to Tuba City lies Moenkopi, a small village on the Hopi Reservation. "Moenkopi Lullaby" (contained in this piece) is melodic nod to the mesas and the beautiful people of the Hopi Nation. During my time there, I came to love the people of the Navajo and Hopi Nations and found them to be very kind, welcoming, and generous of spirit. This work serves as a musical tribute to the breathtaking landscapes and remarkable people of the great Southwest.
