Carlos Kemp Jr., commonly referred to as CJ Kemp (1999, Greensboro, NC) is an American composer, arranger and music educator. He grew up in Starkville, Mississippi, where he graduated from Starkville High School, and received his Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from Mississippi State University. Kemp’s career in composition officially began during his sophomore year of college as a percussionist when his duet for marimba and clarinet won the annual composition contest hosted by MSU. Since then his works for solo percussion, woodwind quintet, marching band, and concert band have been recorded and performed by middle schools, high schools, and universities across the country. He currently lives in Cambridge, MA where he continues to arrange and compose. CJ is a member of ASCAP, the Percussive Arts Society, and the National Band Association.
