Lorrie Baum
Lorrie Baum is a distinguished composer renowned for her contributions to band, orchestra, and chamber music. Baum's music has captivated audiences across North America and Europe. Notably, her works have been performed by brass groups from Pershing’s Own Army Band in Arlington, Virginia, at the Eastern Trombone Workshop. One of her acclaimed string orchestra pieces, "Barefoot Boogie," was performed at the 2024 Midwest Clinic in Chicago, IL, by the Charleston School of the Arts Symphony String Orchestra, showcasing her continued relevance and appeal in the contemporary music scene.
Ms. Baum studied trombone at the Music Academy in Vienna, Austria, under the first and second trombonists for the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. She earned her Bachelor of Music Education degree from the University of Colorado, Boulder. Ms. Baum later received a Master of Music degree in music theory and composition from the University of Northern Colorado where her exceptional talent was recognized through the Graduate Dean’s Citation for Excellence and the Graduate Dean’s Citation for Outstanding Thesis, highlighting her dedication and outstanding capabilities in the field of music.
As a committed member of several esteemed organizations, including The National Association for Music Education, Colorado Music Educators Association, American String Teachers Association, and ASCAP, Lorrie Baum has established herself as a significant figure within the music education community. These affiliations reflect her ongoing dedication to the advancement of music education and her active role within professional circles.
Ms. Baum's extensive teaching career spans over 30 years, primarily within the Denver public schools, where she nurtured the talents of K-12 students in band, orchestra, and vocal music. Her influence as an educator has left a lasting impact on countless young musicians, fostering a passion for music and performance. She continues to inspire young musicians through her published works, which are widely used by school and professional bands, orchestras, choirs, and chamber ensembles.
Since retiring from full-time teaching in 2014, Lorrie Baum has dedicated herself to composing and performing. She regularly plays bass guitar in a women’s duo, continuing to share her musical talents with live audiences. Outside of her musical endeavors, Ms. Baum enjoys traveling, photography, playing golf, and hiking in the idyllic Rocky Mountains.
