Alex LoRe

Praised by The New York Times as a saxophonist who is “...making the connections among about 70 years’ worth of contemplative, articulate and light–toned players,” Alex LoRe stands out as one of the most dynamic alto saxophonists and composers on the vibrant New York music scene. LoRe honed his craft under the mentorship of jazz luminaries such as Lee Konitz, Bunky Green, and George Garzone, whose guidance helped him develop a distinct style that resonates with both warmth and sophistication. His work reflects an expansive range of influences, from the contemporary classical repertoire through today’s most influential artists on the jazz and popular music scenes. Saxophonist George Garzone describes his playing as “bold and unforgiving”, with “...a beautiful sound; he understands the concept of melody.” He has performed alongside the likes of Andrew Cyrille, Dave Liebman, Melissa Aldana, Dayna Stephens, Aaron Parks, Ben Street, Matt Mitchell, Marta Sanchez, Ingrid Jensen, Ron Blake, and Ari Hoenig, among others. Internationally, he has performed throughout Europe, Australia, the Middle East, and Canada.

In October of 2024 LoRe released his fifth album on his very own Weirdear Records. Entitled “Motivity,” the album features internationally acclaimed bassist Thomas Morgan and drummer Johnathan Blake, and paid tribute to LoRe’s late mentor Lee Konitz. His previous four albums, Evening Will Find Itself (Whirlwind Recordings 2023), Karol (Challenge Records International 2019), More Figs and Blue Things, and Dream House (Inner Circle Music 2016, 2014) consisted primarily of original compositions and received critical acclaim from MOJO Magazine, Downbeat Magazine, The New York Times, and Jazz Wise Magazine (UK), among others. His quartet, Weirdear, features some of the most in demand musicians of his generation — pianist Glenn Zaleski, bassist Desmond White, and drummer Allan Mednard. All About Jazz states, “[LoRe] continues to carve out a unique space in the pantheon of present-day saxophonists and composers.”

LoRe currently resides in Brooklyn and is on teaching staff at the New School College of Performing Arts in Manhattan. LoRe is a Boston Sax Shop and Conn Selmer endorsed artist.
